The fact that people think the US is a democracy, a system where 9 cannibals can vote to eat the 10th, is exactly what the founding fathers fought against. Unfortunately they lost though because politicians soon realized they could buy votes by giving the wealth and freedoms of this country away. And the stupid, lazy and greedy couldn't vote them in quick enough.
The USA is a Constitutional Republic. There's a difference but it seems that only a few know this and fewer understand the significant difference between that and a democracy.

Honestly - it's a question I battle with every day here. Are you protecting your family or endangering them by bringing a gun in the house.
Statistically the gun you own is more likely to be used to kill you (including suicide and accidents) or a member of your family than an intruder trying to get into your house. That may even be more likely to kill or a family member than even being used to defend yourself - I can't remember.
Something for all you gunslingers to consider.

They just passed a law in Texas allowing concealed handguns to be carried on college campuses. I expect a lot of As to be handed out rather than pissing off any students.

Let's just say that if I lived in America, I'd make sure I had a gun licence and fully stocked gun cabinet within the week, so I make him right.

When the New Orleans disaster unfolded most of the Police disappeared to look to see if their families were ok.
About a 1000 people were sheltering in a gym or something in one of the sports stadiums and there were people with a guns threatening everybody, no wonder people carry guns as there is/was no protection for the people.
Hasn't changed my mind on guns, but certainly changed my mind set.
I know the OP is about arming in schools but think you have to look a little deeper sometimes

Except that is just one of the more moronic arguments put forward by gun proponents.
It excludes all other factors and you end up comparing South side of Chicago with rural Montana or the like.
It also excludes the how easy it is to cross state and city lines - A guy in DC with formerly tight laws just needed a mate in lax Virginia to get him a gun.

Hope you enjoyed your trip to the states!
Lots of people having guns has its benefits home breakins are far lower here due to the risk of an intruder getting shot and you have far less muggings and knife crime by juvenile gangs due to random people walking around strapped. The downside is once or twice a year there is a mass shooting my some loon.
